Home » About SCCBM

The South Carolina Conference of Black Mayors (SCCBM) was founded in 1973 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that represents African American mayors in South Carolina. Today, SCCBM represents 57 mayors that serve over 275,180 constituents.

The organization’s mission is to promote, strengthen and provide technical assistance and training to mayors in regard to management, economics, and operation of municipal government. The organization seeks to promote the general health, welfare, and protection of the citizens they serve.

The founding mayors felt that there were unique challenges common to small towns and cities under African American management. The organization is not advocating separatism but acts as a strengthening tool for the mayors, to network, grow, and learn from each other.
